This vintage Richere by Walborg gold beaded evening bag is a mid-century masterpiece. Richere by Walborg was one of the most respected names in Japanese beaded handbags of the 1950s and 1960s — pieces that were exported to American department stores and carried by women who understood that a truly beautiful bag was worth every penny. Collectors seek them out specifically. This is exactly why.

What makes this particular bag exceptional — beyond the thousands upon thousands of hand-sewn gold and bronze seed beads that cover every surface including the beaded shoulder strap — is that each side tells a completely different story.

One face features a bold geometric diamond pattern: concentric squares of gold beads arranged in a graphic, almost Op Art design that feels completely modern despite its age. Turn it around and find an entirely different composition: a sweeping feather and leaf pattern, curved and botanical, beads laid in flowing arcs that catch light like a field of golden wheat in movement. Two bags in one. Both magnificent.

The gold double ball kiss-lock closure is engraved and sits centered at the top frame. The beaded shoulder strap carries the same dense gold bead treatment from top to bottom — nothing on this bag was left unfinished, nothing was an afterthought.
