Tantrums Embroidered Patchwork Jacket

Bobby had a soft spot for pieces that looked like they had been made by someone who genuinely loved what they were making. This jacket is exactly that.

This Tantrums vintage cotton jacket starts with a sage green denim-weight base, then layers on three completely different techniques at once and somehow makes it all work together. Across the chest pockets and lower body front, diamond-shaped patchwork panels in soft pink and blue floral chintz fabric are appliquéd in place with raw pink blanket-stitch edges that give the whole thing a deliberate, artisan quality. Over the top of that, climbing rose vine embroidery in deep pink and dark sage green travels up the center front and across the chest, with small crystal-set rhinestone accents dotting each flower. The buttons are antique-silver filigree. The contrast stitching throughout is in warm pink, pulling every detail together into something cohesive.

This is the jacket you throw over a white dress or a simple tee and jeans and everything gets better. Tantrums was a 1990s boutique brand known for exactly this kind of artisan embellished cotton, and pieces like this are increasingly hard to find in good condition.
